For the large boundary wall, he chose a 
pale French blue paint for the horizontal 

stripes that would pick up on the purple 

agapanthus. “It’s a subtle but intriguing 
way to lift a bland, structural expanse,” 

he says.
Suspending an outdoor chandelier 

from a tree adds instant flair to a patio. 
“I also like to furnish a patio with ‘indoor’ 

furniture, so that you create an additional 
room that connects to the interior.”

Dark tiles or timber decking is a good 

way to ‘ground’ a pool area and create a 
more contemporary, clean-lined look.
