Name to Know: David Muirhead
If you don’t yet know his name, you almost certainly know David Muirhead`s work: most recently he transformed Rosebanks`s Grace Hotel into 54 on Bath, Tsogo Sun`s new hotel.
Elegant and warm with rich textures, detailed wallpaper and a city buzz coursing through its veins, it`s a dream realised for the interior designer, whose next big project is the instillation at the main décor hall at Decorex. An honour previously reserved for renowned interior designer Stephen Falcke, the space is the first thing Joburg visitors will see on arrival, en route to the “Dream Rooms Hall”. Hoping for an “OMG” reaction, David will be there to observe patrons moving through his creation and is excited to share his vision.
“My biggest challenge has been the roof structure,” he says about bringing his concept to life. “It`s a technical detail that has needed careful thought and engineering.” For David, good design is not about blindly embracing trends but rather about going with your gut and respecting each project and client. “Every interior should be a personal expression and colour-by-numbers is not an option.
Working with an interior designer who has sensitivity and intuition is key in this time of global soul searching. The best interiors are created when there is trust and understanding.” www.davidmuirhead.co.za
